Having a nice pair of dress shoes in your closet is essential, but you don’t need to break the bank every time the leather dulls. Deploying shoe cream is a cost-effective way to maintain the integrity of your shoes, and keep them looking new.
1. One of the best ways to keep your leather dress shoes looking like they’re fresh out of the box is to take the time to polish them—especially before it rains. Not only is it good practice to polish your shoes at least once per month, but the wax in the polish or cream will also seal the leather to protect it from moisture, dirt and salt.
Polish is also a great way to change up the look of your shoes. If you want a new pair of brown leather shoes to appear more authentic, try using a darker polish. A black or chocolate brown polish on a pair of brown leather shoes will give them an instant worn-in patina look without damaging the leather.
2.If you opt for a suede shoe, there are a different set of tools to keep your kicks looking fresh. Invest in a quality suede spray that will resist moisture and other elements. Test a small (and less noticeable) part of the shoe first to make sure it doesn’t affect the color, and then apply to the entire shoe.
3.For scuffs, use a suede eraser to remove stains and follow up with a suede brush to restore and keep the nap of the suede consistent with the entire shoe.
If the problem is more about the sole than the shine, take a trip to the cobbler. Resoling your favorite pair is more cost effective than buying new ones—and it’ll save you the pain of breaking them in.
