AFWN was established in 2014 by Ms Ronke Ademiluyi for the purpose of showcasing the talents of upcoming fashion designers. It’s primary aim is to place the Nigerian Fashion Industry at the fore front of it’s international competitors. The Africa Fashion Week Nigeria is a sister to the Africa Fashion Week London which is currently the biggest Fashion event in the UK and Europe for African inspired fashion and are also owners of the first concession store inside the plaza on Oxford street, London. The main vision for AFWN is to become an incubator of young creative talents. The first edition of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria took place in May 2014 at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. 30 young and upcoming designers had the opportunity to showcase their talent and veteran designer, Abba Folawiyo alongside other well established designers were also present.
This year, AFWN promises to introduce a segment on Fashion Education, as most young and upcoming designers do not realise that there are numerous aspects to the fashion industry other than for instance runway or red carpet. The fashion education will be delivered by a Top Global Fashion Management company that focuses on Brand and Retail Management with over 20 years experience working in Europe and USA.
Africa Fashion Week Nigeria is produced by Sola Oyebade of Mahogany productions.
