#AFWN2015: Meet The Dynamic Team Behind Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2015
Africa Fashion Week Nigeria is here again and this season, the team behind the event are not holding back. Like the previous season, they aim to further promote the African fashion industry to the rest of the world. The event will serve as a platform to bridge the gap between African fashion and Global fashion trends. Meet the 7 man team below…
RONKE ADEMILUYI born in London, is the founder and CEO of Africa fashion Week London and Nigeria. Her inspiraton behind the creation of AFWN was as a result of the lack of retail space, production factories and start up funds which served as a hindrance to the growth of the African Fashion Industry.She graduated from Thames Valley University in London after studying Law and her passion for fashion which could not be hidden stood her out among the high and mighty both locally and internationally. During her university days, her passion for dressing and looking good became so pronounced that she starting assisting people in shopping for clothes for their wardrobe and later on grew into professional consultancy. In May 2014, Ronke successfully hosted the first edition of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria which featured over 40 designers and exhibitors most which were mostly young upcoming designers in the fashion industry.Ronke continues to be dedicated to promoting African Fashion and supporting African designers across the world.
SOLA OYEBADE aka Mr Mahogany is the CEO and Creative Director of Mahogany International, a Corporate Events and Entertainment Management Group of Companies founded in 1996. He is also the Creative director of Africa Fashion Week London and Nigeria and has also worked on both shows as a producer.On average, alongside the Founder Ronke Ademiluyi, he works with more 70 designers and 50 models for each show. He is highly recognised within the african and Caribbean entertainment and fashion industry for his input as an events director, choreographer, international judge, show producer and consultant. He is also well known for being a motivation speaker on issues that affect the fashion and entertainment industry. Some of the shows he has produced for include; Lagos Jazz Series, Love Like A Movie, Saro The Musical, Britain’s Top Designer, Nigerian Student Fashion and Design Week and London Fashion Week.He received international recognition for being the man responsible for making the Italian Vogue – All Black issue the highest selling edition of Vogue ever. Sola Oyebade has won several prestigious awards and has been recognised as one of one hundred influential Nigerians over the past 100 years.
ABIOLA OLATUNDE ALOBA is the current coordinator of Africa Fashion Week London, the sister brand to the new Africa fashion Week Nigeria. He has been part of the worthy cause to push the African Fashion Industry using AFWL as a platform since 2011.He strongly believes that Africa is the richest and most blessed continent in the world with the most talented and creative people in all areas of life. Abiola first made his mark at one of Nigeria’s top 2 Entertainment and Lifestyle journal- Encomium magazines where he rose to become the editor of the monthly publication- Ecomium Lifestyle and was also a contributor to other journals under Encomium. He is presently the principal consultant at a top public relations and media relations firm called Maestro’s Media.
YETTY OGUNNUBI (YETTY D) is the head of PR and Marketing for Africa Fashion Week 2015. With over 10 years experience in the fashion industry, she is the Creative Director and owner of Yetty D label/Revolution by Yetty D which is based in London. Over the years she has successfully organised an annual fashion event named after her label which is aimed at providing a platform to promote upcoming fashion labels. Yetty has also co-produced, mentored and project managed a soon to be released reality show called Uber Africa Unmasked which followed the lives of emerging designers in London to find the next best Africa inspired designers. She previously worked as a fashion editor for Isaac Outlook Magazine and Side View Magazine a London based magazine.When she is not being creative,she runs her own PR AND Brand consulting business in which she works with celebrities and corporate bodies. Yetty’s main objective with AFWN is to help solidify the place of African Fashion industry in the world and also ensure that the creative talents that need to be discovered.
AR’ZU OKARO is the CEO of x-ray clothing a unisex clothing brand which showcased its debut collection at the black heritage Lagos fashion Week 2010 and Imo State fashion week 2011.In 2011 & 2012, Ar’zu worked backstage at the Arise Magazine Fashion Week as a dresser and at the Nigeria’s Models Achievement Award (NMAA) 2012, he showcased his collections. At the Africa fashion Week 2014, he worked backstage as the wardrobe manager and will be working as the back stage manager at this years show.
JIDE ADEDEJI is the creative designer and stylist behind the menswear brand JREASON which was founded 2 years ago. Since then, Jide has been on the rise in the fashion industry showcasing his collections across major fashion platforms like ECOWAS fashion week and Music Meets Runway.He has styled at various major fashion shows and TV productions like Spice TV. For the Africa Fashion Week show this year, Jide will be one of the head stylists ensuring that a high standard is maintained from the make up to the models.
MICHEAL UDEH is a stage manager and also the executive director of hitbeatz entertainment, a fast rising entertainment company in Africa. Micheal has worked in various major fashion shows like Nigeria’s next top designer, Lagos fashion meniac awards,Nigerian student fashion and design week, Freedom foundation charity ball Africa and Nigeria International Super model.He is currently working for one of Nigeria’s top event production companies – Mahogany Productions.
